Summer was one of the first people to be nice to August, and
was really his first real friend. From the first day Summer let August sit with
her, even though her friends did not like the idea. This made me very happy for
August and I instantly liked Summer. I thought
it was cool how the talked about how their names were related, and made rules
about who could sit with them. If more kids were like Summer, then there wouldn’t
be as much bullying, and kids like August wouldn’t be scared to go to school. This would make our schools a better place.

Via
Via is just like any other older sister. She always stands
up for her little brother August whenever she thinks someone was making fun of
him. She is a very protective sister; it reminds me of myself with my little brother
and sister. Although people always stare
at August, Via is never embarrassed of him, until the school play. Via was
scared that people may look at her differently if they found out that she had a
little brother like August. When Via got herself a boyfriend I was worried that
it would not go well but Justin actually handled it very well. When Justin met
August he looked at him like he was just another person. Via is a very good
person and good older sister.
August
August is just a normal 10 year old boy in 5th
grade there is just one thing he has a face deformity. If the book never told
the reader about this deformity, then no one would even know. His face
deformity has held him back most of his life when he wants to go outside or play
he was to scared that someone would stare or make fun. Because of this he was
getting homeschooled until 5th grade, and that’s when his life was
changed. His parents enrolled him into Beecher Prep. Before things got even
slightly better it started out bad. All the kids stared and other kids like
Julian would say things. This made me angry at those kids, but also upset for
August. Luckily he was friends with a girl named Summer who was nice to him
from day one, and let him sit with her at lunch when no other kids would. Later
he became friends with Jack Will, who defended August against bullies,
especially the bully Julian. After Jack defended August people started being
nice to him. After that August could finally feel normal.
Jack Will
Jack never wanted to go to school on time, he would tell his
mother that he would never help out August (the kid with the deformed face). Weeks
before school started Jack Will had to go to Beecher Prep to meet and help
August Pullman. Before then Jack had no idea that August and he would turn out
to be best friends. In the beginning Jack was just like any other 5th
grade boy and does whatever he thought was the cool thing to do. After being Julian’s
follower Jack finally started to be his own person. I was very happy after Jack
started to stick up for himself and of course when he stuck for August. I loved
when Jack Punched Julian in the face! That is one of the best ways to stop a
bully, and now Jack is the Man!!
